Discomfort and some pain are experienced by most patients at the beginning of orthodontic treatment with metal braces. This discomfort can be experienced when adjusting and when eating and talking. Will my teeth straight once the metal braces are taken off?
Only if the patient follows doctors orders! Once metal braces are removed you will be required to wear a clear, plastic retainer which keeps your teeth in place. This must be worn for life, or as long as you would like your teeth to remain straight. Initially a retainer must be worn daily and nightly. Gradually you reduce the amount of time you wear your retainer up until you only need to wear it while sleeping.
